Re: Foot pedal woes

I guess I can't ignore threads just because they don't pertain to me. Who knew "foot pedal woes" was code for "menopause" and "hypothyroidism?" <G>

I think I'm flirting with the former (menarche in the freakin' fourth grade at age 9, so figured I'd go early), but once my sister complained of night sweats I started taking black cohosh every day and so far, so good. I also developed some bad flooding issues and discovered Vitex (another herbal thingie) that works for evening out hormones in general (supposed to drastically reduce or eliminate PMS symptoms and irregularity, as well). All is well in haggisland now.

Of course, I also eat a lot of soy. Do you know the Japanese don't even have a word to correlate with "hot flash?" Menopause symptoms are very rare in Asia in general because of the amount of soy in their diets.

As for hypothyroid symptoms, had them, too. Maybe five years ago, I finally copped to the idea that's what might be wrong with me and started taking OTC supplements (from my friendly whole foods store), which REALLY helped. It can be tricky to figure the dosage as different brands vary. My original brand went out of business and the new one I substituted was 10 mg stronger. Took me a couple anxious weeks to figure out I needed to skip weekends to even out the dose (never a good day when you suddenly have 3 times as much hair in your brush as usual. . .)

Can I meet your doc so I can bash him with a handy 2 x 4? LOLOLOL A friend's daughter in her early 20s had definite hypothyroidism but one doctor wouldn't treat her, so at my encouragement she kept looking until she found one who would.
