Re: OT best clumping cat litter, anybody?

Wow!! You really DO have this all figured out - I'm impressed! :-)

The Littermaid sits on top of a gray plastic storage box that is 30" long x 18" wide x 16" tall. I cut out the bottom of the little plastic Littermaid receptacle. A matching rectangular hole was cut in the lid of the plastic storage box. This lid just snaps onto the top of the storage box. The plastic bag, a heavy dutytrash compactor bag, is placed in the plastic storage box, pulled up through the hole cut in the lid, and taped to the lid. Some foam rubber is placed below the sides of the bag for a good seal between the bottom of the cut-out Littermaid receptacle and the storage box lid. Duct tape is used to make sure there is a tight seal between the Littermaid receptacle and the opening of the plastic bag.

The Littermaid rakes the clumps, cat poop, etc. into the little plastic receptacle, which then falls into the large plastic bag. The duct tape stops any odors from escaping from the plastic bag. The bag is large enough to hold about 80 pounds of refuse, but I can't lift that very well, so I untape the bag and empty it when it gets about three-quarters full. At that time the Littermaid is given a good cleaning with soap and water with bleach. Between complete emptying times, I use a long-handled automobile windshield ice scraper to remove any clumps that stick to the bottom of the Littermaid.

To reduce sticking, I spray the rake, sides, and bottom of the Littermaid with silicone spray, usually about every 2-3 weeks.

If this explanation is not clear, I will take some pictures and e-mail them.
