Perhaps Anne, even in those days, there were people who were found guilty
who weren't or were found guilty of what they did but were given a
reprehensible sentence. I don't know. To be honest, it never crossed my
mind that it would be just to relieve a president's cronies of wrong-doing.
Maybe I just thought our founding fathers had more class and more integrity
than the politicians of today?

I wonder what the original intent of that law was? The only thing I can
come up with is to allow the President to pardon his cronies who have
committed crimes. Regardless of who is in power, that just seems ludicrous
to me. I really hope there's a better reason for it than the only thing
that comes to MY mind!
Anne
