Thanks Karen. I've applied for approval for entry.
You're welcome.
What turned out to be the standard for nonmedical work?
I'm not sure if I understand what you're asking. If you're
asking about a rate for standard non-MT work, I think it really
depends on the type of work, the content, quality of audio, etc.
There are lots of variables, but quality of audio is right up
there at the top of the list, right next to speed of recording.
Remember, there's a big difference between *dicated* work and
interviews, etc. With dictated work, most dictators at least try
to get the sound to the microphone. With other types, they
rarely think about that aspect 8-(
With focus groups, though (which is what I *think* you were
asking about in your original post), I believe nobody should EVER
quote and accept such a job without listening first.

Oh, I was quite clear as to what I was willing to work with. I would
not have even considered it had I not been assured it was merely 1
dictator each dictating the results of the focus group he/she held
earlier. lol. And I raised my rates just in case. One person will
dictate what an item # is and then what accompanying comments he/she
requires to follow. The focus group meetings are structured to secure
the trust of employees involved and anonymity is guaranteed for them;
something they don't feel they can acquire using recorders during the
groups. Me, I don't accept handwritten notes, audios of roomfuls of
people, nor standard size tapes. lol. I also had comments via another
trustworthy MT who has transcribed for this company to go on as well.
