HELLO! Anyway, from what I'veis
learned from my non-MT friend is that charging per audio hour
generally the accepted method.
I wouldn't recommend pricing a focus group by the auido hour.
(Actually, I don't charge ANY work by audio hour. I charge by
the line, by the page, or by the hour, depending on the type of
work.)
The old NASS IPS standard is that it takes approximately 7-1/2+
hours to transcribe 1 hour of audio involving 3 or more speakers.
But that's if there are no variables.
certainly is true that any quote should either specify that itdepends
on sound quality being good and if it is not, the rate goes up.Of
COURSE, they are going to say the sound is fine.
Yeah, they often will say the sound is good because they were
there, and they know what was said. So sometimes it's actually
an honest mistake. ('Course, sometimes it ain't <g>.) There are
a bunch of other variables, though, including the dreaded
half-speed audio, thick foreign accents, unfamiliar jargon, etc.
It's *always* best to get and listen to the audio before agreeing
on a price.
