Can anyone make a living at 8 CPL?

Just curious. I was visiting MTStars and looked at job listings and noticed
that if anyone posted a CPL rate, it was 8 CPL. To me, that's a starting
rate. A fairly low one, but seems to be the average. But is anyone making a
real living at that rate of pay?

One of the questions on the survey posted on MTExchange.com asks about
improvements we'd like to see. I sure would like to see rates of pay go up,
but that would mean clients would pay more and they won't. Is the rate of
pay that is showing on (at least) MTStars related to offshore outsourcing
and getting cut rate prices for an inferior product?

With the need for legible medical records, will our profession survive or
will EMR and speech wreck take over? I know this has been the portention
for some time, but it seems to be in the works more and more lately.

I must say, I'm bummed to see what's happening to the MT business. Why
would anyone even begin to get into this?
