Hi everyone,
I am a long time lurker of this newsgroup and I figured the best way to get
the info I am seeking is to ask the experts here. To make a long story
short, I was a statutory employee for many years with a hospital and we are
now contractors. We had to use their equipment previously and for the past
10 years the sound card they had in the computer was a Soundblaster card for
wave player audio quality. When we converted over to contractors, they gave
us those computers because we basically paid a leasing fee to them for
years. At one time, Soundblaster was the "only" soundcard that we could use
with Dolbey digital wave player to get the quality we needed.
Now, I am having to purchase a new computer as the hospital is going with a
new company/program/platform. I know many, many of you have various
wave/digital players you get your audio from and listen to via your
computer. My son has told me that the integrated sound cards that come
automatically with computers have improved tremendously in quality in
comparison to years ago when we had to get the Soundblaster card to get good
quality.
So my question is, are most of you just listening to your audio via the
integrated card that came with your computer and if so, is the quality
sufficient for listening to dictation. I'm trying to get a grasp of exactly
how many on this newsgroup have actually bought a sound card besides the one
that came inside the computer to upgrade their audio quality. If I can get
enough statistics to show that integrated cards are of good quality, then
the hospital may change their required specs and not require us to have
specific sound cards.
The problem is, the hospital has no clue what our digital audio sounds like,
as they don't have any in their computer and of course they are not MTs and
never have been so they are basically just going by what the former computer
tech company required for our older system to work with Dolbey wave players.
I'm looking for some statistics to show them if the majority of you are just
using the integrated sound and it has good quality versus how many of you
actually have bought a separate sound card to enhance the integrated quality
of your audio.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Patti
On my desktop, I had the SoundBlaster card installed, but on my
laptop, it just came with what it had, which appears to be a SigmaTel
audio setup (when checking my control panel). I use both without any
difference in sound quality.
