Should've clarified - if I were to recast the sentence in those examples, it
would be as "increased abdominal girth, abdominal pain, and ascites." No?

I took that to mean abdominal pain. Google search pointed me to lots ofdiagnosed
horse sites, but nothing that seemed to have anything to really do with
humans. The definitions I've found in my days-long, obsessive search all
confirm my hunch that it's like saying "My circumference hurts." Kinda
makes sense, but more doesn't.
Thanks for the references, but don't they refer to the measurement of the
abdomen, rather than an area that could cause pain?
After a death in the family, my son starting kindergarten, a newly
& incredibly painful ulcer, and a dictator that is not paying anyattention
whatsoever, my brain is fried to the point of non-existent. I still don'tlook
get it. Does it make sense enough to some of you that perhaps I should
at it again in a week?

I've heard that more than once over the years. There are even Google
references to it. Here's one:
