Some fax machines are set to reduce the size of a page very slightly.
Perhaps yours is set that way and could be changed.

I get a faxed handwritten patient list from one of my clients. The
handwriting can be difficult, and names are often misspelled. I know they
are misspelled because I am working directly in the office EMR and I have to
find the patient to enter the note! The person who inputs the patient data
does not know the basic rules of filing--such as where to put Jr., Sr., etc,
and is inconsistent with things like McDonald or Mc Donald, which makes a
difference where you find it! They may forget the hyphen in a hyphenated
name and you can't be sure which name it is filed under. Very basic
business school rules for filing! It can sometimes take me more than a
little detective work to find a patient in the system!
I have complained, but doesn't help. I agree you should take up the problem
with the office and you should not be penalized. Would a simple thing like
having a good magnifying glass handy help? If size is the main problem,
that might solve it. A magnifying glass is standard equipment at my desk!

Of course it's wrong; it's absurd. There is no other job in the world
where you get docked for errors. I have told her these pt schedules
are difficult to read, and she said she doesn't have a problem with
them, so we should not either.
Maybe she doesn't have a problem because she's seeing the original and
not a copy of a copy. By the time you see it it's no longer close to
the original.
The office is constantly asking me to
resend files (a file is 5 reports) that they have misplaced (they will
not admit to having misplaced them), so maybe I will start charging
them $5 per re-sent file.
I did this with a client who was continually losing reports, and it was
amazing how quickly they stopped losing the reports. It was only on the
order of 50¢ per report/chart note, but some of the lost files were 30
chart notes long, and every penny counts for some.

My boss swears they are looking at the same pt schedules we receive,
by fax. You know how broken up things get on a fax, and when you are
talking typeface 6 font, there is not a lot of room for error! And you
know these days, we are not talking about patient names of "Tom" or
"Mary." You have "Caitlyn," Caiytelin," "Devon," "Deven," "Devan,"
etc.
I asked my boss why I had to keep resending files, and she said it is
not something they ask for on a whim. However, I was once offline for
about a week (phone lines were down in my town due to severe ice
storm), and wouldn't you know, when they really, really had to search
for the files on their end (since I was down and could not resend
them), they found them all.
