Jeanne,
I bought one from a local electronics store -- a small piece, just as
you described. Unfortunately, it seems to have a problem because I'm
not getting full volume from both channels, only one, so it's going
back to the store for testing and I'll keep trying. It was $20. If
it will work properly, it will do just what I need. I had no idea
that turntables were so obsolete that you need an additional piece of
equipment to use them. The good news is that this preamp can also
supposedly be hooked up between my turntable and my PC and I can turn
vinyl into digital using software! Now that's exciting (assuming I
ever have the time to do it). Thanks for the, er, input. <g>
Margie
It's possible that your turntable is not putting out equal volume on both
channels also. This usually is caused by corrosion on the terminals or a
bad cartridge (needle).
You may want to take your turntable in also so they can rule it out.
