Re: Opinion please - flu/pneumonia shot?

I think the pneumonia shot is a given! It could save your life in certain
circumstances.

The flu shot! I used to have chronic bronchitis when I lived up north more
than 20 years ago. Every winter I would have bronchitis all winter. Doctor
suggested flu shots and they never made any difference. Since I move to
warm, humid Florida, I have, in 20 years, had 3 bouts of bronchitis, all of
which ran their course in short order with treatment--I know when a cold is
more than a cold, and I get help. Our PCP recommends flu shots. Both my
husband and I are in high-risk groups. He with serious heart condition, me
with the bronchitis history in the past, and diabetes. When my doctor gave
flu shots in his office we used to get them. He doesn't any more, and
neither of us have had them for 2 years. There are places you can go, and
our health insurance sends us free "coupons" for them, but it means standing
in long lines. We have gone last year once and they had cancelled them
without notice, and the year before the line was so long I said no way.

I really don't have a lot of faith in the flu shot, but I do recommend you
have the one-time pneumonia shot.

I'm 56 and have never had a flu or pneumonia shot. I have only had the
flu once in my entire life about 10 years ago and never had pneumonia.
My PCP is trying to talk me into getting these shots this year. How
many of you get the shots. Pros and cons?

Thanks
Barbara
