Re: Comcast phone?

I wouldn't choose Vonage, based solely on their awful "music"
(although I will say they have toned it down a bit recently).

All this talk about phone plans makes me think of Vickie H. Anybody
heard from her lately?

I have Vonage and would never go back. Whereas Verizon charged $8.95 for
each "extra" (caller ID, call waiting, etc.) and LD plans were a
nightmare, it's all considered basic on Vonage. I do have Comcast for
cable and am often disgusted with the service, so can't picture wanting
to give them more money. Their package deal where you get TV, internet,
and phone for $33 each is not the final price, though I'm not sure what
it goes up to after the 3 or 6 months are up. I just pay $25, period. I
have DirecTV and had to get basic cable because it made the internet
cheaper (?) and so have been able to compare the picture quality. DTV
wins hands down--and when you get a premium channel with DTV, you get
ALL the package, not just the main channel in the East/West versions.
(Granted, it's been years since we just had cable, but I was shocked
when I went satellite and found Starz should've had a DOZEN channels
included. . .)

Vonage also has free calling out of country (all of NA and much of
Europe) and fairly cheap rates beyond that. You can tweak your options
online and take your modem along when you travel, as well. Definitely
don't miss having to have an answering machine--the voice mail works
fine and you also can get email alerts if you've missed a call.

getting rid of the local service. Any comments? Bad or good? TIA.
