To make Dragon work well, and it can, you need to do a lot of training. I
am not sure what version I am running now, but not the latest (don't know
what the latest is), but I had Version 4 or 5 working really well, and
upgraded when I changed computers, and have never gotten it to work as well
as I had it doing on the earlier version. I am running the Pro version.
The recommendation used to be that the Pro version was all you needed. The
medical version has more than you will ever need, and you can custom train
the Pro version.
If you already have some of the chapters on the computer, you could run the
document through the training program which will help a lot. Of course the
overall style could change from one book to another, so you could get it
trained for the current book, and need to do additional training if you do
another book with a different theme.
For a while I used Dragon exclusively when I had surgery on my right hand
and was casted for nearly 3 months. I definitely was getting 98% accuracy
with the earlier version. I use it occasionally now for one account, as my
other account is working on the client's remote computer, and using Dragon
and then cutting and pasting to his computer does not transfer the formats
(Underline or Bold).
If you really spend the time, you can get the accuracy, though.

I thought I'd try out my old Dragon NaturallySpeaking 7.3 which I
haven't used in ages. After finding and dusting off the microphone, I
dictated the paragraph below. It's the first one in my new third
novel, "Home of the Green Dolphin."
***Mitchell Whiting stood on the rolling deck of his ship, muscular
arms akimbo, staring out at the raging sea. His long, supple legs
acted like springs, keeping him balanced, seemingly without conscious
effort. Despite the storm swirling around him, his thoughts were miles
and years away. ***
Here is what came out. Not even close:
***Mitchell waiting to do it on the rolling debt of the ship, muscular
arms akimbo, staring out at the agency. It has long, the couple legs
acted like a pretty good, Gish did big embellished, the seemingly
without Clinton and the period. To bite the dog swirling around him,
you thought you were miles in years away. ***
Okay, I'm told I still have a slight Bostonian accent, but I spoke
slowly and clearly. Has anyone tried a newer version of Dragon, and is
it any better? Since this laptop still has sticky O key and space bar,
I figured I might try speaking instead of typing for a bit.
