How about looking at it on the practical side? Maybe you had done something
that really bothered you, you felt guilty about it, but who could you tell -
not your wife, she would judge you (and probably throw you out).

Finally, you go and talk to your friend, the priest guy. You sat down over
a cup of coffee and told him what was bothering you. He gave you some ideas
of things to do to kind of make up for what you had done. He tells you that
you are really a good person, but don't do that stuff again. You leave,
feeling much better. You have unburdened you conscience. You could have
done the same thing with a coulselor or shrink, but think how much that
would cost. The priest is free.

Yeah, I just described Catholic Confession, maybe not the way most people
think of it, but how I have done it.
