Back in the Middle Ages, the Church had something against dissecting
dead bodies in order to learn anatomy. I am proud of the brave people
who ignored that law in order to figure out how our bodies work.
By the Middle Ages, what the church did had very little to do with what the
Bible teaches. It is true that ancient Israel was forbidden to touch dead
bodies, but the washing they were to do if they did shows that the concern
was about halting the spread of disease, not some baseless superstition.
I too am proud of the brave people who risked their lives to translate into
the common tongue the very document that the church was supposed to be
teaching: the Holy Bible.
"I shall laud you because in a fear-inspiring way I am wonderfully made.
Your works are wonderful,
As my soul is very well aware." Psalm 139:14
It is
really distressing to hear that modern Christians are actually trying to
confuse children about well-established scientific principles because
they think it will hurt them in some way.
Look around you. Even a simple pencil had a maker. Is it likely that if
one shakes graphite and wood around in a dish for X number of years, it will
evolve into a pencil?
Who placed the earth just far enough from the sun, but not too far? Just a
little closer or further away and there would be no life on this planet to
be discussing this issue in the first place.
Who set the planets in our tiny solar system in orbit so as not to crash
into each other? What kind of force can you imagine it would take to set a
huge planet like Jupiter in motion?! Who set Jupiter just close enough so
that its strong gravitational pull attracts most of the meteor traffic, thus
usually sparing Earth, yet not too close, so it doesn't give Earth huge,
crashing tides? Do you realize how many "coincidences" besides these would
have had to happen to make life on this planet even start, let alone survive
and grow?
