We visited Bror's family in Michigan this Christmas Eve, but it will
probably be our last. He doesn't like driving at night and neither do I.
He doesn't like driving in bad weather and neither do I. We had my older
two boys over for dinner and it was a most lovely day.
My friend Debbie, who went to live with her daughter because her health is
so bad, and her husband came back to Toledo after only 5 months with nothing
but the clothes on their back. They now are living in a lower duplex, and
their friends and family rallied around so they have everything they needed
to set up housekeeping again. She too is on dialysis now, but doing better
than when she wasn't.
Finished a quilt for my grandson, didn't like the way the quilt-as-you-go
method "showcased" my imperfect skills, so started him another one. Will
give this one either to the next blanket drive for the homeless or to the
gentleman who shovels our snow and cuts our grass. We were able to provide
cooked food and groceries for this gentleman this year on a fairly regular
basis which made him and both of us happy.
I love being retired. I had wonderful donations of yarn this year that will
be enough to take me into the summer. After 159 sets of hats, scarves, and
mittens for indigent school children, I noticed some pain in my wrist and
forearm and had to stop. If I weren't retired I'd not have the time to do
that and the care I could give Bror would be less than it should be. I love
being retired.
Bror's health is no better; he had a unit of packed cells both Wednesday and
Thursday (hemoglobin was 8.1) and will have bladder surgery on Friday (Jan
31st). His bladder has been grossly bleeding for over a year and the doctor
is finally doing a bladder revision. Looks as though there may be cancer,
but we're praying whatever is found can be fixed quickly. His daughters
said they were going to be here for the surgery. They're scared . . . so am
I.
We really feel blessed by God though. Our children are doing better than
ever, our home is warm and welcoming, our pantry is full of enough food to
be able to share, our cars are working fine, there is money in the bank, we
are debt-free, and we still love each other. Life doesn't get much better
when you're our age.

I would start a thread on "updates". I often wonder how everyone is
doing since it's been so quiet around here and figure I'll start.....
I have been absolutely swamped with work. I have never seen it this busy
on a consisent basis year-round like I have over the last year. It is
great but boy are my fingers tired!!
