Phyllis, I meant no disrespect to the Christian Bible by making it
lower case in a previous post. It just amazes me when people, not
necessarily any of you here, take everything written in the Bible as
edicts handed down to men by God. You, however, are welcome to your
beliefs as am I.
What bothers me is what I used to put up with years ago when I car
pooled with a Catholic man. He insulted everyone who didn't believe
as he did, including myself and others in the car. This he did by
saying we were all going to Hell because we weren't Catholics. This
narrow-minded POV went on for the full hour drive from Petaluma to San
Francisco. We finally learned to ignore his daily proselytizing, even
the Jewish man who drove most days.
To people who might not belong to any particular house of worship, the
Bible is interesting to read and/or study as are other books such as
the Muslim Koran or the Jewish Talmud. I wouldn't join any church,
synagogue or mosque, though, because of women in those religions being
treated differently than men.
We are not second-class people or meant to be subservient followers to
men like Marsha seems to think, and I honestly don't believe any
"words from God" meant us to be. I'm also not trying to change
anyone's mind on this subject since I've learned that talking religion
is often as useful as spitting in the wind.
I guess I'm all out of spit and moving on!
