Re: Anybody know about Gold Beach, OR?

Well, the Rogue is absolutely beautiful, and the drive over to Grants
Pass.... wow. You would also be very near the redwoods. Beautiful country.
I'm not sure about a motor home on the beach, though. I stayed in one once
and I *really* thought it was going to blow away during the night. Didn't
sleep a wink as I was planning an escape route. Next day I commented on it
to the motel owner (thinking it would probably make national news) and he
said, "Oh, yeah, I guess it did blow a bit last night." Huh? Ocean view
would be an absolute must for me. I love the storms and the "bad" weather,
but only if I can see the ocean. Otherwise it's just bad weather.

Thanks for the info, Kathy!

Reason for picking Gold Beach? Beats me - I think it was near something I
saw on the Rogue Rive. I fell in love with the Oregon coastline when we
drove there a couple of summers ago. We didn't go to any beaches at that
time, thoughf (dammit)

I am mad at the dingbat right now, so will probably go out there by myself
to look things over. Basic idea is to buy a used MH like I do here, but
for myself. I saw one online in Gold Beach that looked fairly good - with
an ocean view. That is what I want, in addition to being able to breath
better.

Other ideas, towns, places to see, and people to do will be greatly
depreciated.

Neal,
I know Gold Beach. I'm not sure it is the prettiest beach in Oregon,
(though I love all coastal towns) and it's a long trip to "the valley" to
a larger town (Grants Pass, Medford, Ashland). Brookings, just a little
south of Gold Beach is called "the banana belt" of Oregon in that it
typically has good (better) weather than the other coastal towns. Have
you ever lived in a coastal town? I'm not sure you would tolerate the
weather on the Oregon coast, especially having come from hot and dry
(assuming you like the climate in NM). Maybe you saw the Oregon coast
during the summer, and it was good weather. When it's beautiful, it's
BEAUTIFUL, but most of the year it is rainy, cold, and foggy. That's why
I've often told Judity that she should move to the Oregon coast. She
would love the weather.

Also, the shopping is.... "small town". Very small town. A few of the mid
and northern coastal towns have grown tremendously over the last 10 years
and have most chain stores, but Gold Beach... I'm not sure. Haven't been
there for a few years.

Is there a particular reason you picked Gold Beach? Or the Oregon coast
in general?

Thinking about moving to a lower altitude.

Thanks,

Neal
