Re: Barb - Did Faye do any damage?

What really surprised me was how much National coverage it got--there were
more frequent advisories on CNN than on the local stations, and ABC ran a
big segment on the nightly news. Must have been a slow day. Granted they
have to warn people. Hurricanes are unpredictable. People who live here
show concern, and you always figure it may be one category more (or
less--like this one) than they predict. News says it is actually
strengthening over land now--very rare occurrence. I'll believe it when I
get to talk to someone who lives up there. We didn't even lose electricity
with this one, and heck, we lose electricity regularly in the afternoon
thunderstorms!

Don't you love the way the reporters all seem to crowd around the biggest
puddle they can find (or a dangling stoplight) and talk about how bad
conditions are? My daughter moved out here from California several months
ago, and I told her that now she too would get to watch the forecasters
foam and froth all through hurricane season!

I know things can get ugly, though, and I'm glad you guys just got some
rain!

As usual, the news grossly exaggerated what was simply a tropical storm.
We didn't even put shutters up. The damage TV is showing is from some
small tornados, and of course they hunt for any disaster they can find.
We have friends in the Keys and they said nothing serious, either. We
did get a lot of rain, but we are fortunate not to be in a flood zone,
but some areas may have had some minor water problems, but nothing like
the floods in the mid west. Our pool overflowed, that's all. It never
turned into a hurricane, though if it hadn't gone ashore (in Naples on
the west coast) when it did it probably would have, as the eye was
beginning to form. It's still breezy down here, but sun is out and I
just came in from the pool and pulling all the chairs and tables out that
we had tossed in.

I just hope that's our storm for the season. You know we have lived here
21 years and only had 2 storms that did damage (Andrew and Wilma).
Andrew was really scary, but a tropical storm, or even a category 1
hurricane is no big deal unless you live in a trailer.

Thanks for your concern.

I've been thinking about you and wondering what Faye has done/is doing?
