This video was taken about 4 hours after we left, well before the storm
actually came in. It starts in Kemah, which is the town just over the
bridge, and ends about 2 blocks from my home. The houses shown near the
end of the video that are in high water were almost all completely
destroyed.

It just breaks my heart. I don't know which is harder, driving down
Toddville Road right now, or watching this video with the water coming up.

So glad you survived as did your property. This was a horrible storm for
so many.

Hey, everybody!!! I just got power back on--YAY!!!!!!!! What was
that saying I heard about hurricane survival before we evacuated...run
from the water, hide from the wind, and BOLT from southeast Texas with
long power outages in the summertime--they were NOT joking! Although,
actually, the weather's been pretty kind to us since the storm, in the
80s and with nice breezes.

I was very, very fortunate. My home is completely intact, with no
water damage and minimal wind damage. I have no idea why or how, but
I'm so thankful! I live in Seabrook, and my town was hit really hard
by Ike. The neighborhoods around us are absolutely torn up, with so
many homes and businesses either just gone or awaiting demolition.
Some streets I can't even tell where I am. It's heartbreaking. So
many people lost everything! Some parts of town are still blocked
off, and I understand they had to clear 16 feet of debris off the
highway before anyone could even get into town. It's going to take a
long time to get things back to any kind of normalcy, I'm afraid.
More than half the people in town still don't have power, and I
suspect that the only reason we got ours back on this quickly is that
we're on the same circuit as a strip mall behind our house, and
they're trying to get the businesses back up and running. We've
volunteering in our community while the power was out, coordinating
volunteers for the city, and my BF will keep doing that since I
desperately need to be back at work now that we have power back up.

Anything interesting happen while I've been gone? I don't even know
what's going on around the country. It's amazing how quickly and
completely you can be cut off from the world when no-one has
electricity!

It's good to be back!

Anne
