When we started using WP at office I worked, we ended up with a
tutorial session at computer company the practice used. I "think" that
was for WP5.1 (or the Unix equivalent of it actually). By the time we
got there, I think we were asking questions above what they were
familiar with. Some people can figure out a lot on their own, but for
me to have someone who is a true geek (like Mike for example)
available to fill in the gaps would speed my learning process. I want
to know how to do X - not the 20 million basics before it. Word
basically pisses me off every day - and I can figure out stuff in it
that Word lover's don't know. Of course, when I understand that the
old WP51 can do it, Word should be able to - just have to figure out
how.
For example, client of mine uses logs. Each patient name, date, file #
and report type has to be entered. This is not paid for. I can use
macros to insert the information stored in variables, even if they
want the first name and last name opposite of reports. This is
seamless and invisible. I'm sure this is possible in Word. I don't
know how. I don't think the MTs even imagine it. If I were forced to
work in Word ,then I'd pay someone to make the macro for me - it would
quickly pay for itself in time saved - a lot of people can't even
imagine it should be possible.
