You are so lucky. I do not know anyone who could do my work for me. But, I
have only 2 clients and I can usually get at least a few days, up to perhaps
a week, but the overload when I get back makes me wonder if it is worth it.
I used to be able to turn out 2000 lines or more in a day. Even though I
type faster, I just can't do that any more. I am set up to work away from
home, but what kind of a vacation is that?

OK, I know what some of you do when you go on vacation, you keep
typing the whole time. Heh
Laurel and I want to get away and she just doesn't want to do any
work. I can understand that. When we went to Hawaii for a week 2
years ago she worked a total of 2 hours during that week. I consider
that a small price to pay for being in Hawaii for a week, but she
disagrees. Whiner!
Anyway, here's my question. I think I have brought this up before. When
we were gone that time I arranged a sub to have server access,
and I sent her the files that we received. It was a very slow week,
some of the docs took days off that we had not anticipated and we
really had almost no work that week, so that worked out ok, but we
didn't give the sub much work. I'd like to arrange for someone to do any
work that comes in. I completely understand the problems with dealing
with a new dictator
that you are not familiar with, which is the problems we had that
week, the work we got back was not up to Laurel's standards, and why
would it be? She has done some of these guys for 12 years and she
essentially knows what they are gonna say next, and it's all in
shortcuts. So it's easy for her. Not so easy for anyone who gets a new
dictator dumped on them. What do you do? Just get the stuff typed raw
and format/QC it yourself? Don't go on vacation? Geez. I gotta get away.!
Does the house in Belize have fulltime
internet now? Arrgh. Steve
I used to give notice to my replacement a couple weeks ahead of time, to
make sure she could handle the load. Then I would make copies of various
dictations for her to look at and, if she wanted, a couple tapes just to
listen to and get her up to speed. She was willing to put in a little
extra beforehand because it paid in the long run. Everyone was happy and
I had a worry-free vacation.
