I can see where this is coming from.  People who were already living on that
scale with the economic situation could definitely feel a crunch.  I could
have had 3 children in college at one time--If they had been going to Ivy
League type schools, and expected me to pay the bills, it could have eaten
up $250,000 pretty quick.  If they have fancy houses with big property tax
bills, it can also eat up money fast.  I live in a house that cost us
$250,000 that is now assessed and taxed by the county as a 1.2 million
dollar property and it is sending us too the poor house and in bad need of
repair.  We'd sell some of the property if we could (we're zoned 5 acres,
and own 10) but haven't had an offer of any kind in 2 years, and property
taxes are now costing us $12,000 a year that used to be $2,000.  We don't
live extravagantly, wouldn't move if we did earn $250,000.  We've taken 3
short vacations in the last 15 years--one of which was a gift from our
daughter (5-day cruise).  But, we are 30 minutes from the Keys and have a
lovely pool and property, so who needs a vacation--just time to enjoy it,
which is scarce!

I can understand the crunch people have in that bracket, but better choices
and more frugal, or conservative investments would have given them a
cushion, and no, I don't feel sorry for them, but they are in a position of
not being able to downsize due to the housing market and they have rising
expenses like the rest of us.

The trouble is that most of Congress who has to vote for the tax increases
(just 3%) for the more wealthy are in that group so they are against the
increase.  When Eisenhower was in office the tax rate was 90% for the
wealthy! and that was with Republicans in power!  And the Republicans call
Obama a Socialist!

Personally, I think any family could live on $250,000 annually, but
then I'm basically a frugal person, an ex New Englander.

These people complaining make me wonder how they spend all their net
income. How many credit cards do they have? How often do they buy
"stuff" because they want, not need, it?

Barb, what is amazing to me is that this top 1% has conned the middle
class and poor to cry for them. They have them out there protesting
with them, when they are going to be getting a tax break. It is
amazing to me that the wealthy in this country can continue to
manipulate the poor into thinking they are going to be over taxed when
the wealthy are the only ones getting an increase (of only 3%) and the
poor and middle class will be finally getting the break the wealthy
have had for decades. I will never understand how those idiots get out
there and march for this people. I guess that is why they will
continue to be manipulated by the Glenn Beck's and Bill O'Reilly's of
the world because they just don't get it. We have seen where tax
breaks for the rich got us --NO WHERE. They keep saying it will get us
jobs and hiring. Well, didn't look that way to me. Corporate breaks
didn't work too well either. The greed factor in the last 30 years has
really taken over. I get a message from an outfit that is called to
you love God. This is what came last night. I thought it was
appropriate for now:

Why is it so difficult to provide for the needs of your brothers and
sisters? Why has Jesus, the Buddha and others said it is hard for rich
people to come into alignment with Spirit? Because your ego mind
reasons that if everyone has the same quality of life that you have,
then you are not rich enough.

You measure your level of affluence by how much you have above and
beyond what others have. You have a need for poor people so that you
may feel wealthy in comparison to them.

What if all my children were living at an optimal level of sustenance
and care? If you are currently one of the “have nots” this idea
appeals to you. If you are a “have,” you may nod your head, but
something inside your mind feels threatened.

You may give to the poor, but this only reinforces in your mind that
they are poor and you are not. Rather, this day, begin to hold a
vision of everyone having enough food, clothing, shelter, freedom and
love -- of your not needing to compare your wealth to that of another.
Then, give from that awareness as you are guided.

There needn’t be “have nots” for you to be a “have.”

I thought that was pretty neat.
