Well, that's what a GP is. It stands for General Practitioner. The
first one I saw stared at me like a dog shown a magic trick. He then
wrote out a prescription for an IBS drug and told me I could
experiment with it to see if it helped alleviate symptoms. He said the
only other thing he could do for me besides the blood tests was to
refer me to a gastroenterologist.
The second guy I saw seemed to want to take more responsibility. He
felt concerned and wanted me to immediately see a gastroenterologist.
I did, but the specialist had zero interest in my story or any other
facts other than my symptoms on that specific day.
It would be wonderful to find a doctor with the time to actually think
about each case. Based on what I've seen so far, I'd have to probably
visit at least a handful of doctors before finding someone willing to
play intellectual detective. That is why I am increasing the odds by
helping push the research with my own efforts, and asking the
community for any insight they might have.
