My daughter (4 years old, in excellent health otherwise), has developed a
persistent cough. She coughs a bit during the day but it is mostly in the
morning at just before bedtime. She also has coughing episodes all through
the night. Before bedtime, after lying down for a while, the coughing is
no-stop to the point where her stomach/chest hurts and she sometimes vomits.
Her doctor prescribed 2 nebulizers, one with Flovent, administered before
bedtime and in the morning, and another, Ratio-salbutamol, given only before
bedtime.
Unfortunately, I didn't get much feedback from the doctor (I didn't take her
in), and she (the doctor) isn't much for detailed explanations.
What are these meds for and what are they meant to treat? I don't know if
this is just a treatment or if it is going to become a maintenance therapy?
She mentioned something about asthma and allergies, suggested vacuuming the
bedroom carpet every day, washing stuffed animals, etc.
Sad when the doctor doesn't take the time to make things clear to the
parents, but it was an "emergency" visit squeezed in at our request.
Thanks.
