medication caused depresion for me

I'm new to this newsgroups.
I was prescribed Clarithromycin Biaxin xl 500mg a week ago to
clear up my asthma. It did the trick. But recently, I've begun
experiencing some of the awful side effects listed on the
monograph given by my pharmacist.

The side effects I've experienced were changes in emotions, mood
changes and depression. It didn't occur to me that it might be
the medication causing this until yesterday, when I became so
depressed I actually thought of suicide! I had even gone
thought the planing in my head as to how and where to end it
all! And that life isn't worth living anymore. But suddenly
this morning I 'snapped out of it' and realized what was
happening when a co-worker asked me why I looked so sad lately.
Unbelievable! I'd never take my own life - it's ridiculous!

I've stopped taking it and will be checking with my doctor this
week. Are these side effects common? Perhaps they happen to
effect me more than others?

I hope to warn other users of this medication before it's too
late!
