I've already told people why I am an intactivist, but if you weren't
around then, I'll repeat it.
In 1999 a friend of mine took his own life. Before he did me and him
had spoken very shortly every once in a while about circumcision. When
he took his life he listed in the note he left behind some reasons he
felt that he had to take his life. One reason was because he felt hurt
and betrayed by his family for circumcising him. Granted that wasn't
the ONLY reason he took his life, but it was one. And since he talked
about it with me I felt that I should have picked up on it and
supported him more than I did. But I failed to pick up on it and he
took his life, I felt that it was my fault in part. So, I went and
researched the topic of circumcision a little just to see what the big
deal was, and the more I read about it, the more it irritated me and
the more I sort of understood him. So, for his sake and for the sake
of others like him, I made a point to try to stop infant circumcision
no matter what the cost to me. I formed the organization TACEP which
has a good amount of members, I was asked to speak at Purdue
University in Indiana, I was asked to write an article for our local
paper, I was invited to the Philippines to videotape some of the Tuli
(or Tule) sessions there and expose it. I have written numerous
letters to our state government and our senators, which I am proud to
say may have done some good as my state no longer pays for
Circumcisions. I have written letters to the AAP, The Knights of
Columbus, the Rotary Club, hospitals in my area, I have spoken with
doctors and even with David Llewellyn over the telephone. I have done
all this and more, and will continue to do so until one of two things
happen:
1) I die
2) Infant Circumcision is made illegal
