Betty, the shot does give them immunity. That's the whole point. Some
vaccines are "live virus" vaccines that cause the immune system to create
the antibodies it needs to fight that disease, and some contain dead viruses
or something else to help the body develop immunity. It's not bypassing the
immune system at all!
