If you are relatively young and healthy, with no other symptoms other
than being underweight, then the odds are that a doctor will not be of
much assistance.

They will likely test for the obvious possible causes such as parasites
and thyroid dysfunction. When the results come back as normal, since
you're healthy otherwise they will latch onto the psychiatric aspect.
They will prescribe some drugs for the anxiety, and if you're stupid
then you'll take them.

Supposedly coconut oil might promote weight gain, but I know nothing
about this.

One thing is for sure though, if you cut out some of the aerobic
activities and instead do anaerobics like lifting free-weights then your
body will adapt and as a result you'll end up weighing more. But our
bodies are very good at being as efficient as possible, and that's a
good thing.

Lifting will cause you to get heavier, but I wonder, what's the point?
You're only lifting for the purpose of gaining weight, and that requires
more food, which costs more money and probably reduces your lifespan. So
why not just be efficient for the activities you enjoy? Runners are
going to be thin, there's nothing wrong with it.
