Well, it was a yes/know question, but as you say, the untruthfull have a
hard time answering those. Anyway, I just checked with a blind acquaintance.
The conversation went something like this:
SomeGuy: Jerry, you're blind, right?
Jerry: Yesssss . what's this about?
SG: Bear with me. You have no sight at all, right?
J: Right.
SG: Do you think you could determine if another person could see? I mean,
can you tell is someone is blind or not?
J: Hmmm . Well, I guess I could hold up a few fingers and see if they could
tell how many. If they were blind they couldn't guess correctly too much.
SG: So, you could tell if someone had vision?
J: Yeah, I guess so. I could also type a paragraph on the computer and have
them read it back to me. That would tell me if their vision was severely
impaired or not.
SG: I see. So, you could tell if they had vision and maybe how well they
could see. What about determining if someone was totally blind?
J: Hmm . I guess someone could work up some kind of test pattern program.
You know, something on the computer. A blind person could run it, I guess,
but what's the point?
SG: Well, I know this guy who says that blind people can't assess the visual
function of the seeing."
J: Huh?
SG: Yeah, he says it's not possible.
J: <laughs> Well, he's not very imaginative. Does he actually know any blind
people?
SG: I guess not.
So, Andrew, I guess you're wrong. Were you being untruthful in your
statement, or just deceitful?
