Agreed. The problem here is that your opponents change the burden of proof
when it suits their convenience. If there were medical data available to
support the practice, you can rest assured that they would rest their case on
medical data in lieu of custom. It's still curious to me that most jews will
eventually admit that they mutillate OTHERS -- not themselves -- for religious
reasons, yet most jews that I know are atheist. Put simply they offer
RATIONALES. Not reasons.

It's worth mentioning, BTW, that astute historians often note that
child-rearing techniques within a culture can have a long term impact on the
way people in the culture respond in many ways. And some child-rearing
techniques that might make sense in a stone age environment could easily be
disadvantageous in the "nuclear" age.
