I thought I would just support my assertion that the egg industry in the UK
does not have the record you seem to think - and certainly not the 1% risk
of salmonella that the recent poster claimed

from the food standards agency in the UK - a body that is not reknowned for
supporting the primary food producers in this country

Survey findings
According to the survey, which sampled UK-produced eggs on sale in shops and
markets, one in every 290 boxes of six eggs on sale has any salmonella
contamination, compared with one in 100 in a 1995/96 survey.

That is one egg in 1740
And that does not even say that the contamination is at a level that might
cause any problem at all.

Even when Edwina Currie - a completely idiotic politician in our country was
mouthing off about things she has since admitted she knew far too little
about - we did not have 1% salmonella contamination

I can very much understand that if in parts of the United States you have
such a high rate of contamination then you are perfectly justified in being
very concerned about eggs
Hopefully your industry will take some lessons from ours and spend a great
deal of money cleaning up their act

Eggs are a superb food - its a shame for them to be limited or overcooked
