Aiims doctor attempts suicide

After barely three months, another doctor of the
neurosurgery department of All India Institute of Medical
Sciences (AIIMS) tried to commit suicide on Tuesday.
S Srinivasan (35), a senior resident tried to commit
suicide by slitting the vein of his left hand with the
aid of a surgical blade, a senior hospital official said.
However, he was admitted to the operation theatre
immediately after being found unconscious in his room by
his fellow batchmates. The doctors however declared him
out of danger.
According to Srinivasan's friends he was suffering from
depression for a long time and was not doing well. A
senior resident of the AIIMS hostel residing in room
number 109, Srinivasan had not been communicating with
his friends too for last few days.
After finishing the day's work in the hospital around
three in the afternoon, Srinivasan locked his room as
none of his batch mates were around. Then he slit the
vein of his left hand. However, suspecting his actions,
his fellow room mates barged into the room only to find
his hand bleeding profusely.
They immediately took him to the hospital where the
senior doctors suggested an immediate operation.
Last year Rachit Gupta, a post graduate student of the
same department had committed suicide by injecting
himself with some poisonous substances. Gupta had blamed
the senior faculty members of the department for forcing
him to take such a step.
