Certifying as a Physician Assistant

I have a friend of mine that is an MD that graduated in El Salvador and
in Mexico with a specialty. He would like to come to live in the US.
He thought that the Phycisian Assistant certification might allow him
to start working right away.
Is it possible for him to take an exam and come work in the US once he
finds a job or is he required to take classes at an accredited
institution before he can work as a PA?
