Optimum "sensation" for adductor groin rehab?

Exercises for adductor groin rehab suggest going to the point "just
below pain" and then stop. That sounds a bit vague to me since "pain"
might be different from person to person, and have a range in one
individual. Sometimes a pain scale is used to determine how much pain
medicine to administer, for example.

If I walk briskly, the sensation is such that I notice it, but would
not call it pain, unless I make a fast movement triggering that
tendon. Even so, it is not an uncomfortable sensation of pain.

So, what is the best way to describe the "sensation" that would be
optimum for rehab exercises? It sounds as though the "notice it" level
is not enough, and "I have to stop NOW" is too much.

I would welcome a better guide to judge the best pain level. And yes,
I know the question will prompt all kinds of strange answers <grin>
even though it IS a serious question.

Thanks. Tom
