Pruritis ani can be associated with haemorrhoids, but often doesn't get
better even after haneorrhoidectomy. Other factors play a part including
a vicious cycle of scratch aggravating itch. You can prove this by
scratching a spot on your arm for a minute or so. It will then start to
itch.
Chemical agents especially corticosteroids can help the itch but not the
causes. A cortisone cream of some type may help if sparingly used, but it
is vital to get the condition under control before it becomes a permanent
state and not to rely on such as a permanent solution..
My advice ---
If itch is intolerable, esp at night, get a cortisone cream to use
sparingly.
Be very gentle with the skin and avoid most chemicals, even most soaps.
Don't scratch --- ever --- it will never get better until you stop
scratching. This is hard and can take willpower, but it can be done.
Wash the area gently with plain water ( bidet ideal) after defaecation to
get rid of any traces of faeces or mucus (even mucus can irritate). You may
well find doing the same helps whenever it starts to itch, as a trace of
faecal or mucus leakage may be the trigger..
If this doesn;t help see a dermatologist to rule out psoriasis, seborrhoeic
dermatitis, fungal infections, Candidiasis etc.
If soneone says that treating your piles will cure you they are going to be
mistake in most cases. Studies show it doesn't.
