Not to nitpick, but competent adults aren't "placed under a doctor's care",
they voluntarily *place themselves* under a doctor's care. They have the
right to choose whether or not they will seek medical care, and they have
the right to choose the doctor, and determine whether or not they will
follow the doctor's recommended course of diagnosis and treatment. They have
the right to refuse any of those courses of action and seek another doctor
if they desire. Presumably, they go to see a doctor because the doctor has
knowledge and skills that they don't have, but certainly any competent adult
has the right to fire the doctor, or terminate any testing or treatment if
and when they don't believe that that's true.

The article in question has been exposed as fraudulent many times since it
came out, but no matter. If someone believes that they are in more danger
going to doctor and following his/her recommendations than they would be by
NOT doing so, then they certainly have the right to make that choice.
