Well, there's rare, and then there's rare. It is not considered rare as salivary tumors go, but then malignant salivary gland tumors are certainly not very common. It is also quite possible that the outlook has improved lately, but I'm assuming you are working with an oncologist who should know details about this tumor, or refer you to someone who does.
