University of Florida have identified four genes that are a part of gum
bacteria that has the ability to invade arteries in the heart. During a
recent study, researchers disabled the genes to see if they would still
be able to infect arteries and found they could not. Researchers say
this means these genes play a significant role in how gum bacteria

The postulated link between cardiovascular disease and periodontal disease has NOTHING to do with periodontal bacteria "invading" or "infecting" coronary arteries.
