blood disease mercer

my father has diabetes..am not sure wat type but he takes 2 insulin
shots a day...anyway,he got a sore on the bottom of his foot...the
doctor performed some surgery..now they say hes contracted mercer blood
disease.i cannot find anything about this blood disease.can someone
help me to learn about this disease?
