Question about prostaglandins

X-No-archive: yes

I would ask this question in sci.med.obgyn, but it seems no one is
there ;)

I read that menstrual cramps are caused by prostaglandins and that
taking 600 mg. of ibuprofen three to four times a day for the first
two days of a period would prevent prostaglandins from being made.

Here's where I need your expertise because I'm not sure I understand
this completely. Are prostaglandins necessary to shed the endometrium
completely? If a woman uses ibuprofen to try and prevent
prostaglandins being made, might there be a danger of not completely
shedding the endometrium?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
