February 8th. Still looking for someone who has actually had the

was appreciated).
But recent experiences, good and bad, with this supposedly "routine"
surgery would be helpful.
[Subquestions doctor said assuming no problem, the surgical drain
inserted can/might be removed EITHER the next day OR--because there's
an intervening weekend--4 days after surgery. I have a large, complex
right side hydrocele, should I choose the 4 day option? How
comfortable/uncomfortable is it to have the drain in there for an
extra few days (which might be necessary anyway if I go back the next
day for removal and the uro deems it to be "too soon")]
Thanks again for any feedback.

I guess the reason I keep seeking answers to relatively mundane
questions is the fact that my urologist insists this is "routine"
surgery but never in my 63 years--and I'm not sheltered at all--had I
ever encountered anyone who had a hydrocele (most had not ever heard
of it) until my symtoms emerged about 3 years ago. How can something
so "unusual" be considered "routine"?
Again recent experiences anxiously solicited here (would I do better
with Forums on websites like WebMD for actual experiences with the
surgery//post op?)
Thanks.
I havent had it but I know people who had. It similar to hernia
surgery but its even simpler - because all they do is drain some fluid
from your scrotum and sew you back up. However, how long its going to
hurt varies. Some people are up and about the next day or the day
after. Most people usually go home within 1-2 days if not the same
day. You'll probably get a week's worth of pain pills and typically
that would be enough. If you're relatively healthy and take care of
youreself it should heal very well within 2 weeks you might not feel
anything at all. The biggest risk is recurrence and possible damage to
your testicles, or a blood clot at the area, or possibly a local
infection.
