Ankle sprain

I sprained my ankle a couple days ago, probably somewhere between a
Grade I and Grade II sprain. The doc took xrays, there's no break.
It's still quite swollen, and I'm wearing an Aircast and trying to
keep it elevated as much as possible. I can walk (limp) on it without
much pain, but can't get into shoes - it's very painful to bend or
twist the foot to get into a shoe (can use backless sandals).
Meanwhile, I'm supposed to go on a trip in a couple days, which would
involve (at the least) getting thru airports etc. I'm concerned about
long-term recovery, and whether I should be doing much walking, or
should be resting and keeping it elevated. As long as it's relatively
pain-free to limp along, is that likely to cause any further damage?

I've wrestled with reality for 35 years,
and I'm happy to state I finally won out over it.
