Toxicology tests on bodies -- why such a long time?

A couple of recent news stories will depend on the results
of toxicology tests administered on dead people for their
continuing interest to journalists and the public. But
these tests seem to take a long time. Sometimes the
authorities will say they will be available in 30-60 days.
Is there actual science behind this kind of delay -- or just
politics? If anybody can point to a Web site where such
tests are explained, that would be useful.
