broken bone question.

I broke a small part of bone in my left foot last week. It's now in a
cast, and the doctor tells me it will be so for 5 weeks. I am getting
very bored being at home and on crutches. Does anyone know of any
drugs/vitamins which might help the bone heal quicker?
Also, if I go against my doctors wishes and have the plaster cast
removed after, say, 3, weeks, instead of 5 weeks, what will the
consequences be? Is it really possible that removing the cast early
might lead to arthritis later in life?
Thanks and bye.
