Hemoglobin is actually a variety of proteins that can be separated
based on protein charge. The normal composition is

Hgb A1: 95% to 98%
Hgb A2: 2% to 3%
Hgb F: 0.8% to 2%
Hgb S: 0%
Hgb C: 0%

You can see that hemoglobin A1 is the predominant hemoglobin. The c
form is the glycosylated form of A1 and not sure of that part on
whether it simply refers to the complete measurement of all A1 or if
there are other fractions when they refer to the c part. With out
looking into it my guess would be that it represents the all of A1
that is glycosylated. Glycosylation, nonenzymatic attachment of
glucose to proteins, occurs with other hemoglobin's and with proteins
in general and thus the problems with high glucose that interferes
with normal function when such proteins are glycosylated.
