So the disadvantage of the .223 Remington is not with the round but
with the weapon? Actually the problem with the .223 Remington is with
velocity, the .223 requires a minimum 2400 fps (730mps) and about 2600
fps (800 mps) to be really effective. The best the M-4 gets is 2900
fps at the muzzle ( and it goes downhill from there, losing about 200
fps over 100 yds, that's why it sucks), and even that depends on the
target being hit (if he has enough sense to just go up and die). The
Xm-8 will use a shorter barrel to develop less velocity, therefore be
completely ineffective unless you spray the target with multiple
rounds ( in which case get a shotgun)

I'm not suprised, though I can't say why the m-4 fails so much.

That's assuming you have a choice, remember you may not be really
involved in the decision whether you get shot or not.
