    There's a Brazilian Army page about Arraial Novo do Bom Jesus at
    http://www.exercito.gov.br/VO/176/arraial.htm . It shows the site
    of the original one, but the text seems pertain to stuff after
    1645. Perhaps the person cited for the material, Claudio Skora
    Rosty, could help out with the earlier history.

    A quick look around didn't find a direct e-mail or him, but he
    taught a course at http://www.fgf.org.br/index.html, so sending
    e-mail to fgf@fgf.org.br might be the thing to do.
