During the guerilla war in then Rhodesia, government forces used
trucks modified with increased ground clearance and with blast
deflecting plates underneath to reduce casualties from
land mines. Are there reasons to think that similar modifications,
possibly reoptimized to deal with a blast from the side
rather than underneath the vehicle, either would or would not
provide useful protection against roadside bombs?
