Its not an assault rifle, but the FN-P90 ejects downwards.through a
well just forward of the *** (plate?).
I wonder if the P90 style bullpup could scale up to 5.56 mm?
The P90 configuration allows for a higher capacity magazine and
ambidextrous use. Ejecting downwards must be simpler and more reliable
than the eject foward thru a tube of the FN2000.
The trouble might the magazine, do 5.56mm mags have to be curved?
7.62 NATO mags are straight..
But that would mean losing compatibility with the M16 mags which seem
to be the de-facto standard for 5.56mm ARs.
Calico make 9mm Carbine/SMG/Pistol and .22LR pistol/SMG that
use a weird-as tubular rotary magazine and eject the cases down foward
of the trigger guard.
Dont know if that design would scale to 5.56mm.
The main feature is the high magazine capcity, 200rds .22LR, 100 or 50
rds 9mm, how many 5.56mm rounds could that style of magzine cope with?
60?
Not much better than a 40rd M16 mag.
